charini :
I, as someone who has stopped watching the news a long time ago (I get what I want off the Internet), I have always wondered about the psychological well being of journalists.
Imagine your life, day after day reporting on tragedies, rapes, robberies and all sorts of NEGATIVE events. Yes, because there’s rarely something GOOD on any of the news programs.
I know one needs not to alienate oneself from all the world. But, watching and learning about deaths and crime, fires burning someone’s home, etc… How can that contribute for our well being?
And HOW IN THE WORLD do the one’s reporting all of this do it? How can they sleep at night after a day of bombarding us and each other with such dark reporting?
For the money, some of you may say. But I ask: is ALL THE MONEY in the world worth losing a part of yourself daily?
Have a great day, y’all!

I wonder how they can talk nice about our politicians and still keep a straight face.
You have a great day, too!
You pretty much nailed it.
My Mother in law was in Congress, and all newspeople (not just local) would turn on her in a second.
Anything to sell a story – it’s just how they pay their rent…. Even if it means destroying lifes or doing horrible damage to people’s esteem… They figure it’ll blow over and they’re just reporting :the news” (even if it’s lies).
How do they (reporters) sleep with themselves? I disagree about the money – they earn pretty good money, but they look at their jobs as merely a stepping stone to other things… which rarely happens.
Hi Charine,
After due consideration regarding your point of view, I think being a journalist or reporter of good or bad news is a job like any other.
Imagine a Doctor or nurse that works in the emergency room the horrors they see everyday especially in areas where violence is a normal occurrence. They have no escape, the nightmare is there but they have to stop to eat and in the end of the day go home and sleep and leave the image behind.
The journalist and reporters on the other hand, have the privilege to hide behind a camera write or read the occurrence but seldom get any blood on his hand or have to patch the victims up, or watch them dying… They become robot like. They report, close the book go home or the nearest fancy bar… next day they are ready for more gory.
